Our Journey

I moved to New Orleans to attend Tulane University and study music.  Instead I fell in love with a city.  I got on a Greyhound bus in August 2005 in Atlanta and 24 hours later when I got off in Miami, the city was under water.  I listened as everyone at home listed the reasons not to rebuild New Orleans.

I found my purpose in the days following Katrina to design and build in the spirit of real places.  Places that tell real stories of people and families in new and meaningful ways.  I strive to encourage a new way of building in our cities that tells the most interesting story we can about the people we are building for.

Our imagination comes to life when we live and work in places that mean something to us.  The lines and light of a space influence our feelings; they can serve as a daily reminder that we are building something longer than a lifetime, that, with environmental design we can build sustainable cities, inclusive communities, and spaces that spark creativity and innovation.

COMMERCIAL WORK

The majority of our commercial clients are local business owners.  From our work redefining the interior of the OB Noodle House to taking on the design of the Patio Restaurant Groups living walls several years back, we help incorporate plantings in the most challenging situations.  From Living Walls to Metal Planters, we find solutions that add warmth and comfort to public spaces.

INSTITUTIONAL WORK

Our most notable work is with the Juvenile Justice System in San Diego.  I have lead girls from juvenile hall through a design and build of a place attachment garden located at the San Diego Continuing Office of Education.  Through a 6 month long process, I lead workshops for Master Gardener's, youth, school faculty and probation that sought to connect us all through the garden and to learn from eachother.  I lead the garden program for the boys out at Camp Barrett, educating the boys on California Native Plants and Wildlife.

We have worked extensively with the Mission Beach Town Council and Belmont Park to introduce Native Plants and a new boardwalk park for the land behind Centennial Rock.
